In Indian rummy, a standard deck of 52 cards + 1 Printed joker is used. It consists of 4 suits – Clubs, Spades, Diamonds,and Hearts. Each suit consists of 13 cards: Ace, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10, Jack, Queen and King.

  1. Face cards

Ace, Jack, Queen,and King are the face cards. Each suit consists of four face cards. In total, there are 16 face cards in a deck.

  1. Deal

The process of distribution of cards to each player by the dealer at the beginning is known as adeal.

  1. Dealer

The person who deals cards to the players at the start of every hand is known as the dealer.

  1. Hand

The cards dealt withto each player at the beginning of the game areknown as the hand.

  1. Wild Joker

After the dealer distributes the cards to each player, a card is randomly picked from the remaining cards known as awild joker. It may be used instead of a card to complete sets and sequences.

  1. Melding the cards

The process of arranging the cards into valid sets and sequences is known as melding the cards.

  1. Sequence

Grouping of 3 or more consecutive cards of the same suit is known as a sequence.

  1. Pure sequence

Grouping of 3 or more consecutive cards of the same suit but without using either printed or wild card jokers is known as apure sequence.

  1. Set

Forming a group of 3 or 4 cards of the same rank but different suits is known as a Set.

  1. Draw

The process of picking a card either from the open or closed deck is known draw.

  1. Discard

The process of discarding a card by the player to the open deck is known as discard

  1. Declare

When a player melds the minimum 2 valid sequences with one of them being a pure sequence, the players declare the game by showing his cards to the opponents.

  1. Drop

Due to unfavour able cards, a player may decide to quit the game either at the start or in the middle known as the drop.
